Panama (Guna Yala), circa 1970s

Finely worked reverse appliqué mola panel featuring four identical quadrants, each containing a central meander motif framed by multiple concentric rectangles with sawtooth channeling, executed in three layers of maroon, black, and yellow cotton with extensive appliqué accents and hand embroidery in purple, yellow, blue, orange, and red. Sophisticated multi-layer color play with each concentric band revealing a different hue. Sawtooth border along the bottom edge with printed cotton trim.
