Panama (Guna Yala), circa 1950s

Reverse appliqué mola panel depicting five abstract animal figures integrated within an allover labyrinth of interlocking channels, executed in two layers of red and sage green cotton with hand-embroidered details. Each animal is identified by a circular embroidered eye worked in concentric rings of yellow, white, and blue stitching, with the sinuous bodies dissolving into the surrounding maze-like ground. Dense, even hand-stitching throughout with a dark gray fabric border and orange rickrack trim at the top edge.
