Description
1890 7 Point Star Quilt Finished 1950s measuring 82 by 92 inches. It is comprised of 56 blocks, 7.5 by 7.5 inches, set straight, 7 by 8, with 3 inch red print sashing and inner border, followed by a 1.5 inch white border, followed by a 2.75 inch red print outer border. It is hand pieced, hand appliquéd, and hand quilted. Thin cotton batting and a red and white plaid reverse. The edge is finished with an applied white fabric binding. The blocks contain a nice variety of prints from the 1870s to 1890s including Centennial green, madder prints, novelty prints with sailor, horses and more. The stars are hand appliquéd to the white background square. The blocks are from c1890. The sashing, borders and quilting are all from about the 1950s.
Condition report:
It is in fair condition with several spots, small holes, and a repair made with fusible interfacing. This is not an archival or a recommended way to fix a quilt.
