A striking geometric mola panel worked in three layers of reverse appliqué and appliqué featuring an interlocking maze pattern of stepped crosses arranged in systematic repetition. The composition demonstrates sophisticated geometric precision and technical mastery through its complex nested forms and visual rhythm.
The panel contains five large stepped cross forms arranged in a grid pattern—two across the top, one in the center, and two across the bottom. Each cross is created through concentric stepped outlines in alternating colors of turquoise, yellow, orange, and black, with decorative sawtooth edging along each color band. The crosses interlock with vertical and horizontal bands that run between them, creating continuous pathways through the composition.
This maze-like pattern bears similarity to traditional indigenous textile designs found throughout the Americas while also suggesting labyrinth or pathway symbolism that may reference spiritual journey or cosmological mapping.
