Description
Antique c1890 Grandmothers Fan Quilt very graphic is Red, Taupe, and Black Wool. It measures 71 by 78 inches. It is comprised of 36 blocks, 11 by 11 inches, set straight, 6 by 6. There is a 3 inch taupe wool border along 2 sides and a 5.5 inch double border of taupe wool and red wool along the other 2 sides. It is hand pieced, hand appliquéd, hand embroidered, and hand quilted. There appears to be no batting but possibly a foundation between the top and the black satin sateen reverse. The edge is finished with a black sateen applied binding. There are hand embroidered turkey track embroidery stitches along all the seams between the blocks, and in the Grandmothers Fan. The stitches are also carried out along the perimeter of the entire quilt.
Condition report:
It is in good condition with several dark discolorations, and the Turkey track embroidery along the perimeter has losses.
