Description
Antique c1820 Chintz Quilt measuring 104 by 106 inches. It is comprised of 64 on point linen print squares, 8 by 8 inches, with alternating block print floral on blue chintz on point squares, setting diamonds, and borders. It is hand pieced and hand quilted. There is thin cotton batting and a small red cotton print reverse. The edge is finished knife edge style, by hand, with the additional quilting around the perimeter (English Style). There are large bed post corners. I believe the linen print to be possibly last 18th century. It is in fair condition with overall toning and spots, small tear at the bottom, and minor fabric deterioration in the linen print. These very early quilts are rare to come up for auction. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
