c 1950s Rose of Sharon Kit Quilt by Paragon, inspired by a quilt in the Florence Peto collection. It measures 79 by 94 inches. The center field is comprised of 2 solid white pieces of fabric measuring 32.5 inches wide, the block motifs are strategically set against this ground, 2 by 3, with a quilted border 9 inches wide and an appliqué undulating green vine and pink bud border 7.25 inches wide. It is machine pieced, hand appliquéd, and hand quilted. There is thin cotton batting and a white cotton reverse. The edge is finished knife edge style, by hand. It is in good condition with several yellow and dark spots that may so at soak out with a gentle cleaning. It was made by Marcelle Langdon Barker (1907-1976) of Oldwick, NJ. She graduated from Textile High School in NYC and worked in the fashion industry before her marriage to Frank L. Barker, Jr in 1931.
