Description
Antique Spanish hand-colored paper folding fan featuring hand colored printed scenes of 18th century Spanish ladies and gentlemen dancing on one side and gilded scroll work on a white ground with a hand colored medallion of an 18th century English or French couple. The guards and ribs are made of intricately carved bone with pierced work in a Moorish style and gold floral gilded accents. As well as a mother of pearl rivet and an embossed brass loop. The fan is in fair condition with some wear to the folding junctions, and tape has been applied as a repair on the reverse in several areas and several small tears to the paper leaf. The guards and ribs exhibit fading and loss of gilding. Possibly of Spanish origin. Measures 10 1/2 in x 20 in and includes a decorative cardboard box. Please see the photos for details.
