Description
Antique c1830 Peony Variation Quilt with Bed Post Corners measuring 109 by 104 inches. It is comprised of 92 Peony flowers, 6.5 by 6.5 inches, set on point, 11 by 10, with 29 by 28 inches bed post corners along the bottom. There are solid white setting squares and solid white and red print setting triangles. There is a 2 inch red print border along the top and along the bedpost corners. It is hand pieced, hand appliquéd, hand embroidered, and hand quilted. Thin cotton batting and an off white cotton reverse. The edge is finished with an applied red print binding. It is interesting to note that at first glance the flowers all seem the same, but are actually quite different in construction, in the leaves, embroidered details and several using cut work chintz appliqué (also known as Broderie Perse) and some giving the appearance of a folded leaf. While several fabrics are repeated there is a nice variety of period prints in this quilt.
Condition report:
It is in fair condition with overall toning, spots, and minor fabric deterioration. In house Flat Rate Shipping of $30 is a domestic shipping estimate for first quilt and includes insurance.
