Description
Antique 1885-1886 Crazy Quilt measuring 59×59″, with a 4″ handmade bobbin lace along all 4 sides. It is comprised of 25 blocks, 10 by 10 inches, set straight, 5 by 5, with a 3.5″ burgundy velvet border. It is hand and machine pieced, hand appliquéd, hand embroidered, hand painted, and hand tied at each block intersection. There appears to be no batting. There is a gold sateen reverse. The edge is finished knife edge style with a handmade lace edge. The velvet border has a hand embroidered date of 1885 appliquéd onto it. There is a fan in each of the corners. Many of the blocks feature hand embroidered motifs such as owls, peacocks, flowers, children, butterflies, and more. Many of the seams feature an array of hand embroidered motifs as well. There are several small jacquard fabrics that include a hen with chicks, and kittens. There are hand colored fabrics with children and hand painted flowers and birds. This is one of those quilts that every time you look at it you will find something new.
Condition report:
It is in fair condition with several fabrics deteriorating and shattering. The lace has holes and wear as well. In house Flat Rate Shipping of $30 is a domestic shipping estimate for first quilt and includes insurance. We will gladly combine multiple quilts for your convenience and economy.
