Panama (Guna Yala), circa 1960s

Finely worked reverse appliqué mola panel depicting four stylized serpent heads arranged in quadrants, each nestled within concentric rectangular channels that radiate outward in an interlocking maze pattern. The serpents feature prominent ric rac teeth, circular white appliquéd eyes with embroidered pupils, and colorful appliqué detailing in green, blue, yellow, and dark grey, with accents of polychrome printed cloth. Scattered embroidered stitches in yellow, green, and white surround each head. Executed in three layers of deep red, pink, and orange cotton. Dense hand-stitching throughout with strong bilateral symmetry.
