Description
Panama (Guna Yala), circa 1970s

Reverse appliqué and appliqué mola panel depicting a biblical scene inscribed “PARTUMMA IKARN” within a large red oval on a dark ground, executed in two layers of black and orange cotton. The upper register features two confronting birds flanked by four multicolored stars, each with embroidered concentric centers. Below the lettered banner, two stylized birds with rainbow-striped wings flank a central open Bible displaying paired floral motifs with dotted detailing. A paisley-form fruit with embroidered stem and small bell shapes appear along the lower edge. Dense multicolored filling bars in yellow, pink, blue, teal, green, and orange throughout.

Condition report:
