Description
Panama (Guna Yala), circa 1960s

Reverse appliqué and appliqué mola panel depicting the Bolivar Rum label, executed in three layers of black, red, and yellow cotton. The composition features a central heraldic shield containing four quadrants with paired animal figures, flanked by two rampant stylized creatures with curled tails and whiskers. Embroidered sunburst rosettes with multicolored radiating rays at upper left and right. Appliquéd lettering along the lower register. The entire black ground is densely filled with multicolored embroidered bars in yellow, orange, pink, lavender, blue, white, teal, and peach, giving the panel an exceptionally saturated surface. Fine hand-stitching throughout.
