13 x 17.5 inches
Finely worked reverse appliqué mola panel depicting a large abstract eagle with outstretched wings, executed in three layers of dark red, black, and white cotton with extensive appliqué and hand embroidery throughout. The wings are filled with densely packed vertical stripes in a full spectrum of colors including yellow, teal, blue, orange, pink, and purple, bordered by sawtooth-edged channels. The eagle’s head is indicated by a small square at center top, with a central axis featuring two concentric almond-shaped eye motifs in red, orange, and blue. The lower body terminates in bold spiral and triangular maze forms in blue, yellow, and orange. The entire design is framed by a sawtooth edge. The background is enlivened with polychrome linear fill stitching in teal, yellow, and black.
