Panama (Guna Yala), circa 1970s

Finely worked mola panel composed of four quadrants, each containing a symmetrical cross-form medallion built from nested triangular and stepped fret motifs radiating from a central axis, executed in three layers of black, red, and orange cotton, with additional appliqué and hand embroidery in pink, yellow, blue, green, and magenta. Strong bilateral and quadrant symmetry, with bold concentric outlines and dense hand-stitching throughout.
