Description
Featured is a well preserved walking suit from the 1890s. It is a tailored, two piece set with a fitted bodice and skirt. The bodice features a voluminous leg o’ mutton sleeves that are created with extra fabric protruding outwards and includes a matching skirt. The bodice features a nipped waist and groupings of triple striped black fabric that is thin. A structured collar is featured and the bodice and skirt shares the same light colored, weave with distinctive black stripes in both horizontal and vertical bands. The black bands or piping on the arms and on the waist. The skirt is similarly structured with three horizontal bands of black on the hem followed by a black velvet trim on the underlying skirt hem. The back of the jacket showcases pleated detailing along the neckline. Hook and eye closures are along the front of the fitted bodice with one of the eye closures being loose and another missing. The hooks are all included. The skirt features hook and eye closures along the waist and it is a practical length that stops along the ankles. Both are made from cotton with linen linings. There is a bow at the waist for the bodice. Visible toning on the fitted bodice and skirt. There are perspiration marks on the inside alongside a rip on the seams. The neckline shows visible discoloration from natural body and hair oils. The skirt has several spots on the front and back. Laid flat: Length: 17″, Shoulders: 12″, Sleeves: 22″, Bust: 14″, and Waist: 13″. As for the skirt, Measurements: Waist: 11″ and Length: 37″.
