March Antique & Vintage Quilt & Textile Auction
Lot 215:
Description
2 Red Woven Fragments. There is a red and gold threaded textile with supplementary weft weaving. There are mythological creatures featured on the fragment such as unicorns and dragons. Around the creatures is a frame made from leaves in the same gold thread. It is made from silk and it is in good condition. The piece is a little over one yard in length. Included as well is another textile fragment which may have been part of a rug or coverlet. It is red and beige with the beige most likely being the result of toning over time. There are two parallel images within a sphere but what the image represents is unclear. It is made from wool. It is in bad condition with thread lifting up in places, holes, severe toning, rips, and fragile areas. It is a piece ideal for reference more than usage. The pieces are from the early 1900s. This was part of a NYC Archival Collection of Textiles for reproduction and inspiration purposes.
