March Antique & Vintage Quilt & Textile Auction
Lot 214:
Description
Mounted Victorian Jacquard Swatches. There are 8 white pages mounted with Victorian chiffon jacquards and 20 white pages mounted with 19th century floral jacquards. The white pages are sometimes mounted with several swatches on one page, allowing for there to be a diverse representation of 19th century textiles. The floral jacquards are ditzy in their design with there being swirls, wreaths, pops of color, and other designs to make them jump out. These pieces have some spots on several swatches due to age. As for the Victorian chiffon jacquards, most of the designs are in black though there are a few swatches with designs in different colors. Flowers and flower baskets are featured primarily and there are some stripes as well. The age and fragileness of the silk is visible as there is visible toning and some holes on several of the swatches. These pieces are a good source for fabrics of the 19th century. This was part of a NYC Archival Collection of Textiles for reproduction and inspiration purposes.
