Description
Antique 1850 Figured and Fancy Coverlet -Made by John Gaus, Nazareth, assuming Pennsylvania. Measures 69 by 88 inches. Natural linen with indigo wool. Medallion style, almost like a carpet, with a star in the center with rococo style leaves, geometric frames, and an outer border with more scrolls, Lute figures, and cornucopia along the bottom border. The bottom corners state made by John Gaus Nazareth 1850. There is blue fringe along 3 sides. The coverlet has been mounted on a canvas material with navy blue velvet loops along the top. The top edge was applied by machine the rest by hand. I have been unable to identify this weaver in any book or online source.
Condition report:
It is in fair condition with minor friends loss, overall loss to wool in the coverlet, and a large stain on the bottom left In house Flat Rate Shipping of $35 is a domestic shipping estimate for first lot and includes insurance.
