Description
Antique c1870 Whig Rose Crib Quilt measuring 30 by 33 inches. Medallion style with a single appliqué block in the center consisting of red, pink, cheddar, Centennial green, and brown solid fabric. There are 4 inner borders of about 1/2 inch wide surrounding the block in the solid colors and a 1.5 inch solid white outer border. It is hand pieced, hand appliquéd, and hand quilted. There is thin cotton batting and a white cotton reverse. The edge is finished with the smallest of prairie points all in solid white. This is the earliest example of a quilt I have seen using this edge treatment. Very nice quilting, really nice design, and a great rare treatment for this time period.
Condition report:
It is in fair condition with the brown fabrics significantly deteriorated and has also discolored the white areas surrounding each element in it that was used.
