Description
Antique 1847 Signature Quilt Top – Allentown, NJ in an Orange Peel Variation measuring 89 by 108 inches. It is comprised of 60 blocks, 12 by 12 inches, set on point and staggered, 5 by 12 with madder print setting triangles. Several of the blocks have signatures or name inscriptions, along with years 1846 and 1847 and from Allentown, New Jersey. It is hand pieced. It is just a quilt top with no backing, batting, or quilting. It is in fair condition with overall toning, spots, fading to some signatures, and a well-intentioned individual appears to have rewritten some names on some blocks in blue ink. It appears that it may have been washed, and as a result a few fabrics are deteriorating. Names include Sarah Ford, Edwin A Ford, Elizabeth Ford, Rebecca H Robbins, and many more. There is a handwritten list of the names believed to be on the quilt top. Nice variety of Turley Red Prints, Prussian Blue, Chintz, and more. Also included is an individual basket block.
