Description
Vintage Delta Sigma Epsilon Quilt measuring 78 by 105 inches. It is comprised of 12 appliqué blocks, 16 by 18 inches, set straight, 3 by 4, with 6 hand appliquéd cornucopia blocks and 6 blocks featuring a green coat of arms motif against 4 open yellow Friendship circles. There is a 4 inch off white stashing and 11 inch appliqué border with leaf motif. The corners have the coat of arms appliqué motif with the 2 top corners including the Delta Sigma Epsilon in Greek letters in the center. It is machine pieced, hand appliquéd, and hand quilted. There is thin cotton batting and an off white cotton reverse. The edge is finished with a facing on the reverse. It is in good condition with just a few small spots and the pencil lines for quilting is evident. The Delta Sigma epsilon sorority was founded in Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 1914 and existed until 1956. The symbolism in this quilt mimic the symbolism of the sorority including the coat of arms motif in green, friendship circles in cream, and the cornucopia.
