Description
Antique 1826 NJ Hand Embroidered Sampler measuring 17.75×18.25″ framed. The linen ground has darkened with age, and several letters have faded. The sampler has 4 variation of the alphabet . Below is stitched “Priscilla Peterson born Feb 24th, 1810 – M Cole Preceptress – This Sampler was wrought by – Priscilla Peterson May 25th 1826”. There is a hand embroidered border of an undulating vine and bud or acorn. A brief search found Priscilla Peterson, born Feb 24th 1810 from Atlantic County, NJ. And M Cole was a teacher in Cape May, NJ. A similar sampler is found in the Museum of Cape May County. One found online made by Roxanna Corson, also with M Cole Preceptress, from 1817, Cape May, NJ. Priscilla married Smith Corson, possibly a relative of Roxanna. In house Flat Rate Shipping of $40 is a domestic shipping estimate for first lot and includes insurance.
