Description
Antique 1886 Elongated Hexagon Quilt measuring 80 by 74 inches. It is comprised of elongated hexagons measuring 7/8 inch on the short side and 1.25 inches along the long side. The hexagons are arranged with a brown print in the center surrounded by a round of off white solid, surrounded by a round of print fabrics. The Mosaic flowers are then separated with an off white solid path. It is hand pieced and hand quilted. There is thin cotton batting and a red small plaid reverse. The edge is finished with an applied brown stripe binding, by hand. The quilt is in fair condition with overall toning, spots, fading, and some fabric deterioration. In one corner on the reverse is hand embroidered in petty point stitches the initials CAP and the date 1886. Many of the fabrics though appear to be much earlier. From a New England estate.
