Description
Antique 19th Century English Medallion Quilt Measuring 78 by 84 inches. The center is comprised of 4 Oakleaf and Reel blocks appliquéd onto a pieced square measuring 19.5 inches by 19.5 inches, set straight, 2 by 2, with a 2.25 inch over dyed green sashing and border. It is then surrounded by a 4 inch parallelogram frame, a 3.25 inch sawtooth frame, a 4 inch dogtooth, frame and a 4 1/2 inch on point square frame. It is hand pieced, hand appliquéd, and hand quilted. There is an off white cotton reverse and a medium loft cotton batting. The edge is finished with an applied binding of a madder print. It is in fair condition with 2 brown fabrics deteriorating, several small spots, fading, and small worn area in one of the black fabrics. Workmanship is primitive but charming.
