Description
Antique c1845 Sunflower Quilt measuring 81 by 80 inches. It is comprised of 49 round blocks, 9.25 inches in diameter, set straight, 7 by 7, with a 4.5 inch sawtooth border. It is hand pieced, hand quilted. There is thin cotton batting and a white cotton reverse. The edge is finished with the back brought to the front, applied by hand. It is in fair condition with overall toning, spots, fading and 3 fabrics appear to be deteriorating. The quilt has a wonderful fabric library of period prints including Turkey red, Prussian blue and green, lapis prints, over dyed green, and more. The quilt maker skillfully selectively cut some prints to give some of the blocks a more interesting design.
