Description
Antique Needlepoint Panel measuring 31.5×54″. Appears to me to be young lovers escaping on horses. Executed in wool gros point are trees, flowers, and fruit, with petit point figures in the center of a girl with reddish blond hair on a black horse, her veil flowing behind her, riding with a young man on a tan horse. Romeo and Juliet? Tristan and Isolde? Guinevere and Lancelot? Or is the person in the blue garment riding side saddle, another female? There are petit point birds on the side. Amazing detail! Embroidery is complete. It appears to have been previously framed. In fair condition with age discoloration, some yellow stitching is missing, and some tears along the outer black border.
