Description
Vintage c1933 George Washington Cherry Tree Quilt made by Mary E Osborn, Hamilton County, Indiana. It measures 75 by 85 inches. It is comprised of 9 blocks, 17 x 19 inches, set straight, 3 by 3, with 3 inch solid green sashing and red cornerstones, a 4 inch white with cherry appliqué inner border, and a 3 inch red solid outer border. The blocks feature 5 cherry tree blocks and 4 blocks with cherries and hatchets. It is machine pieced, hand appliquéd, hand embroidered, and hand quilted. There is thin cotton batting and an off white cotton reverse. The edge is finished with an applied green fabric binding. One the reverse is hand embroidered M.E.O. 1933. It is in good condition with just a few small spots. The quilt may have been made to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of George Washington. If you have any doubt, please ask questions!
