Description
4 Pieces of 19th Century Floral Chintz. The group includes 4 pieces of antique 19th century floral chintz. Featuring 1 large piece of chintz with urns filled with flowers and flourishing feather-like surrounds. It measures 20”x 25 3/4” and has been loosely stitched to a muslin backing as a conservation effort. It is in poor condition with holes and tears throughout. 1 piece of antique floral chintz featuring wide and narrow vertical stripes with floral stations on either a geometric or natural branch-like ground. It measures 17” x 23” and is in good/fair condition with several small holes. 1 piece of antique chintz featuring a floral Corinthian column print. This fragment appears to at one time have been part of a child’s skirt as the top of the piece was once tightly gathered and the bottom still has a cotton braid at its former hem. It measures 10” by 25 3/4” and is in fair condition with several holes and slight toning. 1 piece of antique floral chintz featuring vertical rows of floral branches with many different flowers and red currants on a ground with a shirting print. It measures 26” x 26” and is in fair condition with toning throughout, water stains, color bleeding, and a small tear at one end. This piece also appears to have come from a child’s skirt. From the Estate of Bobbie Aug. Bobbie Aug was a well known and regarded quilt historian, author, appraiser, and quilter for over a half a century. She was also an antique quilt dealer and quilt store co- owner and judge. Most notable is her work on the American Quilter’s Society Quilt Appraiser Certification Committee and her early involvement in the Professional Association of Appraisers-Quilted Textiles.
