Description
Antique c1900 Pickle Dish Quilt measuring 69 by 77″. Comprised of 9 blocks, 18.5 by 19 inches, set straight, 3 by 3, with 4 inch solid green sashing and melon cornerstones, possibly Congo red. There is a 6 inch green border on the top and bottom. Each of the Pickle Dish rings measure about 15 inches in diameter and is pieced into a bright orange ground. It is hand pieced and hand quilted in Baptist Fan motifs. There is thick cotton batting and a green cotton reverse. The edge is finished with and applied green binding, by machine. It is in fair condition with overall fading to the green, several spots, and a small tear along and edge on the back. Possibly a Southern Quilt. There is a sleeve attached to the back along the top of the quilt. From the Estate of Bobbie Aug. Bobbie Aug was a well known and regarded quilt historian, author, appraiser, and quilter for over a half a century. She was also an antique quilt dealer and quilt store co- owner and judge. Most notable is her work on the American Quilter’s Society Quilt Appraiser Certification Committee and her early involvement in the Professional Association of Appraisers-Quilted Textiles.
