Description
Vintage c1930 Sun Bonnet Sue Quilt, I am calling her Mama because she is the more adult version with a bosom. The quilt measures 67×70″. It is arranged medallion style with 16 marching in the center, surrounding by 3.5″ blue frame, surrounded by an additional frame 7″ wide of marching Sues. And an outer frame of blue and white alternating squares about 6.5″ wide. Each of the Sues are different, with different clothing, color combinations and embellishments. Some have hand embroidery, rick rack, and/or lace. It is machine pieced, hand appliqued, hand embroidered, and hand quilted. Thin cotton batting and an off white cotton reverse. Edge is finished with the front brought to the back, by hand. Many of the fabrics are earlier. This is an unusual setting and not SBS variation! From the Estate of Bobbie Aug. Bobbie Aug was a well known and regarded quilt historian, author, appraiser, and quilter for over a half a century. She was also an antique quilt dealer and quilt store co- owner and judge. Most notable is her work on the American Quilter’s Society Quilt Appraiser Certification Committee and her early involvement in the Professional Association of Appraisers-Quilted Textiles.
