Description
Antique 1877 Wheel of Fortune or Peaceful Valley Quilt measuring 70×85″. Comprised of 120 squares, 7×7″, set straight 10 by 12, with 60 pieced Wheel of Fortune Blocks and 50 alternating solid cheddar squares. It is hand pieced and hand quilted. The date is quilted in the quilt 1877. Thin cotton batting and a brown with pink plaid print reverse. The edge is finished with an applied solid cheddar binding, by hand. In poor condition with spots, edge wear, and many fabrics deteriorating. Excellent workmanship! This quilt can be seen on page 100 of “Vintage Quilts” co-authored by Bobby Aug. From the Estate of Bobbie Aug. Bobbie Aug was a well known and regarded quilt historian, author, appraiser, and quilter for over a half a century. She was also an antique quilt dealer and quilt store co- owner and judge. Most notable is her work on the American Quilter’s Society Quilt Appraiser Certification Committee and her early involvement in the Professional Association of Appraisers-Quilted Textiles.
