Description
Antique c1890 Redwork Embroidered Quilt measuring 64×75″. It is comprised of 30 blocks, 10.5×10.5″, set straight 5 by 6, with a 5.25″ white border with a passementerie style motif. It is hand pieced, hand embroidered, and hand quilted. There is thin cotton batting and an off white cotton reverse. The edge is finished with an applied off white cotton binding, by machine. Each block has names hand embroidered, and some have other figural or floral motifs. I am unable to determine any date or location stated on the quilt, but there are several Reverends. There is a sleeve for hanging attached to the back along the top of the quilt, and signed by Bobby Aug. It is in good condition with just a few small spots and minor fading and/or embroidery loss. This quilt can be seen on page 151 of “Vintage Quilts” co-authored by Bobby Aug. From the Estate of Bobbie Aug. Bobbie Aug was a well known and regarded quilt historian, author, appraiser, and quilter for over a half a century. She was also an antique quilt dealer and quilt store co- owner and judge. Most notable is her work on the American Quilter’s Society Quilt Appraiser Certification Committee and her early involvement in the Professional Association of Appraisers-Quilted Textiles.
