Description
Antique c1910 Red Cross Quilt measuring 83×94″, It is comprised of 42 Red Cross blocks, 11 by 11 inches, set straight, 6 by 7. There is a 2.5 inch off white border followed by a 2.5 inch red border and a 3 inch off white outer border with a scalloped edge. It is machine pieced, hand appliquéd, and hand quilted. There is a thin cotton batting and off white cotton reverse. The edge is finished with an applied red fabric binding, by hand. It is in good condition with overall toning and a few small spots. There is a sleeve for hanging attached to the back along the top of the quilt. This quilt can be seen on page 97 of “Vintage Quilts” co-authored by Bobby Aug. From the Estate of Bobbie Aug. Bobbie Aug was a well known and regarded quilt historian, author, appraiser, and quilter for over a half a century. She was also an antique quilt dealer and quilt store co- owner and judge. Most notable is her work on the American Quilter’s Society Quilt Appraiser Certification Committee and her early involvement in the Professional Association of Appraisers-Quilted Textiles.
