Lot 4:
Description
Antique 1851 Hexagon Mosaic Quilt measuring 83×95″. Comprised of 1.25″ hexagons in Turkey Red Prints, early double pink, chintz, chrome yellow fabrics. The fabric arrangement creates a medallion setting. There is a 11″ floral chintz border. The quilt is hand pieced, hand appliqued and hand quilted. The top has an off white hexagon with hand inked motif and the name Sarah F Cory Sept 15, 1851. There is thin cotton batting and an off white cotton reverse. The edge is finished knife edge style. This may be an English quilt or the maker from England, based on the blue print fabric, the medallion setting, and the edge finish. There is a sleeve for hanging attached to the back along the top of the quilt, and signed by Bobby Aug. It is in good condition with a few small spots. This quilt can be seen on page 117 of “Vintage Quilts” co-authored by Bobby Aug. From the Estate of Bobbie Aug.
