Description
Antique c1850 Turkey Red Print Ohio Star Quilt Measuring 69 by 73 inches. It is comprised of 30 squares, 10.5 by 10.5 inches, set straight, 5 by 6, with 15 pieced Ohio Star blocks in Turkey red prints, and 15 alternating squares and a pink print shirting. There is a 9 inch pieced shark tooth border along 3 sides using Turkey red print and a yellow shirting. The bottom corners are notched to accommodate a post bed. It is hand pieced, and hand quilted. There is a thin woo batting and off white, possibly linen blend, homespun reverse. The edge is finished with a very narrow applied binding in a Turkey red print. There is a sleeve attached with safety pins on the back along the top of the quilt. It is in good condition with a few small marks. From the Estate of Bobbie Aug. Bobbie Aug was a well known and regarded quilt historian, author, appraiser, and quilter for over a half a century. She was also an antique quilt dealer and quilt store co- owner and judge. Most notable is her work on the American Quilter’s Society Quilt Appraiser Certification Committee and her early involvement in the Professional Association of Appraisers-Quilted Textiles.
