Description
Antique c1880 Rose Wreath Applique Quilt from PA with a unique paper-cut border. It measures 76 by 76 inches. It is comprised of 16 blocks, 16.5 by 16.5 inches, set straight, 4 by 4, with a 5 inch border. It is machine pieced, hand appliquéd, hand reverse appliquéd, and hand quilted. Fabrics used are all solid: green, Turkey red, and yellow. There is a thin cotton batting and an off white cotton reverse. The edge is finished with an applied binding in solid green. There is a sleeve for hanging attached to the back along the top of the quilt, and signed by Bobby Aug. It is in good condition with just a few small spots. The workmanship is excellent. This quilt can be seen on page 27 of “Vintage Quilts” co-authored by Bobby Aug. From the Estate of Bobbie Aug. Bobbie Aug was a well known and regarded quilt historian, author, appraiser, and quilter for over a half a century. She was also an antique quilt dealer, quilt store co-owner and judge. Most notable is her work on the American Quilter’s Society Quilt Appraiser Certification Committee and her early involvement in the Professional Association of Appraisers-Quilted Textiles.
