Lot 197:
Description
Antique c1880 Czech Embroidered Glazed Cotton Apron. This antique c1880 Czech black glazed cotton apron features a beautifully bottom border in a mix of geometric and floral horizontal bands in a mix of white cotton and colored silk threads. As well as a 4” long bobbin lace trim in a mix of white, red and green. The top of the apron is tightly gathered and is edged in a blanket stitch, the ties are made of woven red and white passementerie bands. The apron measures 12” wide at the top and 31” wide at the bottom, the ties measure 45” long. There are similar pieces in the Victoria and Albert museum collection. It appears that the apron had several pin tucks at one time but they have since come undone. The apron is in fair condition with toning to all of the once white thread and lace, fading to some of the colored embroidery and ties, small holes and tears in the black glazed cotton.
