Antique & Vintage Quilt & Textile Auction
Lot 30:
Description
Vintage c1930 Dresden Plate Quilt with a label on the back from the Maine Quilt Heritage Project (#404 from May 7, 1989 date of documentation). It measures 72 x 96 inches. It is comprised of 12 Dresden plate blocks, 17 x 19 inches, set straight, 3 by 4. There is a 10.5 inch appliqué border using additional petals from the Dresden plates to create an undulating motif that mimics the scalloped edge. It is hand pieced, hand appliquéd, and hand quilted. There is a thin cotton batting and an off white cotton reverse. The edge is finished with and applied off white bias tape binding. It is in good condition with some overall toning, small spots, and watermark. All of which should soak out. The workmanship on this quilt is very fine. The appliqué is almost perfect, as are the tiny quilting stitches. This quilt is part of the Estate of widely respected Sharon Stark of Sharon’s Antiques Vintage Fabrics and Textiles of Eastern PA. She was an author and long time collector and dealer of antique quilts, fabrics and textiles. Sharon was THE authority on Feedsacks, and you may remember her Rickrack website.
